Cyber Security Awareness Workshop, Etawah
Campaign: Cyber Surakshit Bharat – Safe Bharat, Strong Bharat
Date: Thursday, 19 February 2026
Venue: Suditi Global Academy, Etawah.
1. Objective
The workshop was organized to promote cyber safety awareness among students, staff members, and citizens, and to educate them about prevention and reporting mechanisms related to cyber crimes.
2. Dignitaries Present
The program was graced by:
• Shri Rajeev Krishna, DGP Uttar Pradesh (Online Mode)
• Shri Shubhrant Kumar Shukla – District Magistrate, Etawah
• Shri Harish Chander – DIG, Kanpur Range
• Shri Brijesh Kumar Srivastava – SSP, Etawah
• The training session was delivered by renowned cyber security expert Dr. Rakshit Tandan.
3. Key Topics Covered
(A) Overview of Cyber Crimes
Dr. Tandan explained various types of cyber crimes, including:
• Online banking fraud
• UPI fraud
• OTP scams
• Phishing links
• Fake customer care fraud
• Social media hacking
• Identity theft
• “Digital Arrest” fraud (impersonation of police/officials via video calls to extort money)
Participants were advised to remain vigilant and avoid sharing OTPs, PINs, passwords, or banking details with anyone.
4. Awareness on 1930 – National Cyber Crime Helpline
Special emphasis was given to the National Cyber Crime Helpline – 1930, dedicated to reporting online financial fraud cases.
Key Points Discussed:
• 1930 is an emergency helpline integrated with banks and law enforcement agencies.
• Immediate reporting increases the chances of freezing and recovering the defrauded amount.
• Victims should call 1930 as soon as fraud is detected.
• Essential details required while reporting:
o Bank/UPI ID
o Transaction ID
o Date and time
o Amount transferred
o Screenshots or SMS alerts
Participants were also informed that complaints can be registered online at:
www.cybercrime.gov.in
It was emphasized that quick action during the “golden hours” is crucial for fund recovery.
5. Sanchar Saathi Initiative
The working of the Government of India’s Sanchar Saathi portal was explained. The portal allows citizens to:
• Check mobile connections issued in their name
• Report and block unauthorized SIM cards
• Trace and block lost/stolen mobile phones
• Prevent misuse of telecom identity
The initiative helps reduce SIM-based fraud and identity misuse.
6. Data Breach Awareness – Have I Been Pwned
Participants were introduced to the website https://haveibeenpwned.com/, which helps users check whether their email or mobile number has been exposed in known data breaches.
If a breach is detected, users should:
• Immediately change passwords
• Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
• Secure affected accounts
7. Identifying Genuine and Fake Websites
Guidelines shared:
• Check for https:// and lock symbol
• Verify correct spelling of domain names
• Avoid clicking suspicious links
• Do not trust unrealistic offers or urgent warnings
• Cross-check official websites from trusted sources
8. Identification of SMS Types
Participants were informed about different SMS categories:
• Government SMS – Official sender IDs – ending with G
• Service SMS – OTPs, bank alerts – ending with S
• Implicit Promotional SMS Ending with I
• Promotional SMS – Marketing and advertisements – ended with P
Suspicious SMS asking for money, KYC updates, Asking OTP or threatening legal action should be verified carefully.
9. Digital Arrest Fraud
Key awareness points:
• No government agency conducts arrests via video calls.
• Do not transfer money under pressure or threats.
• Disconnect immediately and report to 1930.
10. Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Participants were guided on enabling MFA.
MFA Includes:
• Something you know (password)
• Something you have (OTP/app)
• Something you are (biometric)
Benefits:
• Adds extra security layer
• Protects accounts even if password is leaked
• Prevents unauthorized access
11. Introduction to Passkeys
Dr. Tandan explained passkeys as a secure alternative to passwords.
Highlights:
• Login using fingerprint, face recognition, or device PIN
• No password transmission over the internet
• Highly resistant to phishing
• Faster and more secure authentication
Participants were encouraged to enable passkeys wherever available.
12. To protect your WhatsApp account
enable two-step verification and set a secure PIN. Never share OTPs, passwords, or verification codes with anyone. Verify any urgent money request by calling the person directly. Avoid clicking unknown links or downloading suspicious files. Adjust privacy settings to limit profile photo, status, and last seen to “My Contacts.” Turn off automatic group additions. Lock the app using fingerprint or face recognition. Keep your app and phone software updated regularly. Do not use public Wi-Fi for sensitive transactions. If you notice suspicious activity, immediately log out from linked devices, block the contact, and report cyber fraud on 1930.
• Enable Two-Step Verification and set a strong PIN.
• Never share OTP, PIN, or verification codes with anyone.
• Verify money requests by calling the person directly.
• Do not click on suspicious links or unknown attachments.
• Restrict Privacy Settings to “My Contacts.”
• Turn off automatic group addition by everyone.
• Lock WhatsApp with fingerprint or face authentication.
• Regularly update the app and phone software.
• Avoid using public Wi-Fi for sensitive activities.
• Immediately block and report suspicious accounts and call 1930 in case of fraud.
13. Protection of Social Media Accounts
Recommendations:
• Use strong and unique passwords
• Enable MFA and passkeys
• Avoid unknown friend requests
• Limit personal information sharing
• Regularly review login activity
• Log out from public devices
14. Interactive Session
The workshop concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session. Participants raised queries related to cyber fraud prevention, reporting mechanisms, and account security practices. Expert guidance was provided to clarify doubts and strengthen digital awareness.
